A great beginner’s ride, which is 90 percent traffic-free, making use of shared paths and canal towpath wherever possible. There are a couple of multi-stage crossings and some routes run alongside major roads, so younger children will need supervision.
The section of canal towpath between Thatcham Station and Hambridge Road is a bit rough in places, so probably best suited to hybrids and mountain bikes.
For refreshments, there is The Swan near Thatcham Station and there are plenty of pubs and cafes in Newbury Town Centre.
