Cyclists will formally launch West Berkshire SPOKES the new name for their action group at a public meeting in Shaw on Friday December 6, presided by David Rendel MP who is co-chair of the All-Party Parlimentary Cycling Committee.

Before the meeting Vodafone will release proof copies of a new map for cyclists, to be road tested by SPOKES members.

West Berkshire and Newbury Town Councillor Martha Vickers whose idea it was, with her husband Tony, to form the local group nearly two years ago, already speaks for for cyclists n the West Berkshire Partnership's Transport Action Group (TAG).

Cllr Mrs Vickers who cycles around Newbury in her job as a health visitor, also helped form the Local Agenda 21 group, which then became the sustainability forum before that was merged with the partnership.

The new group's first funds came from the council, which contracted them to undertake the district's first ever cycle count in September.
